About
My name is Andy Maltpress and I’m an amateur photographer with a love of the fen landscape and wildlife. I work full time in agricultural engineering and have lived all my life in the fens of Cambridgeshire.
We have vast open skies and amazing sunrises and sunsets in the fens, skies which can change from vivid blue to dramatic storm cloud formations of grays and blacks. The land is flat with few trees which can make for landscapes that show the open and timeless nature of the fens. Planted wind breaks of poplar stand as stark contrast to the open spaces. Our rivers are slow moving with flood banks as the land is often a lower level than the river. Fen wildlife is very diverse, ranging from dragonflies to owls, kingfishers, hen harriers and the elusive and endangered water vole. Some wild flowers are only found in the fens which can make some exciting photographs.
All this makes for some amazing landscapes, wildlife and flora, all of which changes dramatically depending on the season.
Some of the photographs are from one of my other favorite areas, Yorkshire, probably because of the complete contrast of locations.
